LePad be called and will use the Android operating system. Shortly after launching its own handheld device to compete head to head with Apple iPhone, Lenovo has put all its machinery in motion to prepare their alternative to the iPad. The Asian company is planning to launch its own tablet PC later this year.

The device is known as LePad and use the Android mobile operating system. So at least it is clear from recent comments made by Liu Jun, senior vice president and group president of consumer business Lenovo and it have already been confirmed by the company.

This product development comes shortly after the president of Lenovo said early this month that the CEO Apple Steve Jobs was not focusing on the Chinese market. “If Apple devotes the same effort to Chinese consumers, Lenovo would have problems,” said Liu Chuanzhi the Financial Times.

This year, Lenovo has begun selling its own smartphone, the LePhone. The company said that in the past, Lenovo strategy was “winning” China before attempting to sell the phone outside their borders. Lenovo also believe that the hardware and services related to the mobile Internet could amount to between 10 and 20 percent of the company’s business over the next five years.

Other Chinese companies have also developed their own tablets, some have even dared to market iPad imitation. However, Lenovo would be one of the largest companies focusing on the development of its own device. “Lenovo has a strong brand name is known among local buyers. That is something that is clearly in its favor, “said Bryan Ma, associate vice president for IDC Asia Pacific.

From IDC predicts that in 2011, sales of multimedia tablets reach one million units to china markets and Taiwan together. In 2014, that number will grow to 4 million units. But what remains to be seen is how to develop the market for tablets in China. “There are still several issues on which applications are to be used in these tablets or what interest rate will attract these products,” explained from IDC.

With respect to Apple, the company will start selling in Hong Kong this week, but still must communicate its plans to sell the iPad in China.
