Error in the Intel Chipset
Intel has detected an error in the 6 Series chipset, which acts as a controller on motherboards that carry the new Intel Core Second Generation, known by its code-named Sandy Bridge. Stresses you have found the error, has begun production of the new chipset.
Intel has now released the news that an error was discovered in the design recently submitted its Series 6 chip, code-named Cougar Point which accompanies the second generation of Intel Core processors.
As reported in the statement, Intel have halted the marketing and sale of the affected chipset, and once corrected the design flaw, has resumed production of the new version of the chipset, in order to provide manufacturers the most appropriate solution for their processors. Company believes that systems could be affected: minority states that the affected systems are those that have been sold since last January 9.
The error, as shown in the statement, affects Serial-ATA ports (SATA) which are controlled by the chipset, so it can become degraded over time, which translates into an impact on performance or functionality of the devices that are connected to these ports, whether the hard disks or drives DVD-type optical. The only systems sold to end users, potentially affected are quad-core systems based on Intel Core and Core i7 i5 of the second generation.
Recall that the second generation of processors Intel Core and the family 6 Series chipset acting as a platform, were recently presented at the beginning of the year, coinciding with the celebration of CES. Since then, many manufacturers and integrators have begun to implement it and produce their corresponding motherboards and systems.
This news also suggests amending the revenue estimates provided for the first quarter, being affected by 300 million dollars. Keep you informed about it.
