The new solar powered plane or so called solar impulse plane is quite light with 61 m of length and 1,500 kg of weight. It uses the very efficient solar cells, batteries, motors and propellers that will be used in the non-sun lights day. It will get the trial flight around the globe as the trial plans of Dr Piccard that had ever tried around the globe non-stop by balloon in year 1999. The solar powered plane will be tried to fly around Atlantic in year 2012.

Dr Piccard said that it is so challenging to flight a plane with the only solar energy as the power. It will be more challenging in the night time when the sun lights go down. Yet it will still be tried and will firstly try in a short destination. It will try to across Atlantic first and then across the earth with the route; United Arab Emirates – to China – to Hawaii – across Southern United State – Southern Europe – and then back to the UAE.

Dr Piccard said that theoretically the solar powered plane is able to fly non-stop across the earth. But he isn’t sure that the pilot can do it because the plane will fly slowly with 25 knots of speed; it will take about 20-25 days of flights and it is a very long time for the pilot to fly without any rest. The maximums days of the pilot flight are five days. So, it is a great invention for today because it can help us to save more energy and get the more function of natural energy.
